Brian Jungen is a Canadian born artist who is noted for his unique style of transforming common everyday objects into imaginative works of art. His pieces are heavily influenced by his Native heritage, evident in his sculpture of a massive whale skeleton made from plastic lawn chairs.
He is most famous for his Prototypes of New Understanding series where he disassembles Nike Air Jordan kicks and redesigns them into simulations of Northwest Coast Indian masks. Brand Jordan lovers will recognize the various editions in Brian’s work; I can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeve for the historic release of the Air Jordan 23 later this month.
