Israelian package designer Igal Hodirker went back to basics with his concept packaging for Bulb - an organic fruits, vegetables, and food brand. The packaging ties in with the brand concept of “the inner truth”, encouraging people to return to the basic source of nutrition through nature and the seeds that grow within.

Marketing through colours - The New KOR Water Bottles

Adrian Ma | Design, Left Brain, Marketing, Must-have, Products, Right Brain | Thursday, May 7th, 2009

It’s no secret that KOR’s marketing plan is based around sustainability and the eco-friendly movement, but they’ve taken it one step further with their new marketing campaign using four different coloured bottles. The colour you choose is now more then just a simple aesthetic preference. Each bottle is colour coordinated to support a specific earth-friendly cause with 1% of all sales donated to your chosen cause.

Sales of the pink bottle go towards Blue Planet Run, the green supports The Wetlands Initiative, the blue bottle support Algalita Marine Research, and Orange supports the Container Recycling Institute. I’ve got the BPA-free blue KOR water bottle myself. Which charity will you support?

Eco-friendly alternatives have been permeating through every industry in the 21st century, so it’s no surprise that brand package designers have kept up with this trend. Petar Pavlov’s package design concept enables manufacturers to save on paper and ink by eliminating the printing process.  The items are specially-shaped during production and presented in clear packaging materials, effectively acting as the product label itself!  Just imagine the possibilities.

Eco-friendly design - Green goes up

Adrian Ma | Design, Environment, Inspiration, Right Brain, Technology | Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Urban planners and architects have long understood that in crowded cities with limited land space, the only direction to develop is up. This has resulted in taller and taller buildings, so much so that the record for the world’s tallest building changes almost yearly.

However, it wasn’t until the last couple of years that we’ve seen environments at higher altitudes. This blending of landscape and building architecture has led to some very interesting creations.

Mindful marketing - Grow-a-brand

Adrian Ma | Design, Environment, Inspiration, Left Brain, Marketing, Products, Right Brain | Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

When the brand name Honda comes up in conversation, one conjures up the image of a steel-box emitting greenhouse gases that add to the effects of global warming. With this in mind, the people at Honda developed a marketing campaign that not only raised the awareness of their eco-friendly lawn and garden equipment (I bet you didn’t know they existed, huh?), but it also acted as a solution to the problem.

Introducing Plant This Letter, a direct mailer printed on specially made paper containing seeds that literally grow when planted. All the elements were Al Gore-friendly; only soy inks were used and both the paper and envelope were 100% recycled and acid-free. Recipients were encouraged to toss the mailer in their garden and, with a little TLC, watch it sprout. In effect, their trash became a means to remove carbon from the atmosphere.
