Paramount Pictures has teamed up with infamous graffiti artist Banksy to bring us the world’s first Street Art disaster movie, “Exit Through the Gift Shop”. After an acclaimed premiere at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, “Exit Through the Gift Shop” will be opening in selected cities across the USA starting April 16 to May 21.
Dirty Hands - The Art and Crimes of David Choe
I first heard about David Choe through his prison art and was impressed with his gritty creative talent. Upper Playground has created a documentary which takes an in-depth look at his philosophy on life, art, and his reformed views after his incarceration. “Dirty Hands” will begin screening on April 30th, 2010 in Los Angeles and then make its way up North to San Francisco on May 21st.
Nigel Li is a video game designer by day and a t-shirt/clothing designer by night for his label Junktion Design. Much love goes out to Nigel for hooking up his latest tee design “Wisdom” which incorporates a psychedelic 3D effect when viewed with 3D glasses.
The popularity of TED has spread like wildfire in the past couple of years. TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is an annual event where the world’s leading thinkers and doers share the latest developments and issues shaping their respective fields. Previous distinguished speakers include Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Frank Gehry, Tim Brown (IDEO), Sir Richard Branson (Virgin), Philippe Starck, Bono, JJ Abrams (Lost), Chris Anderson (WIRED), just to name a few.
Recently, TED has expanded to include an international conference called TEDGlobal and other media initiatives such as TED Talks and TED.com. In the spirit of their motto “Ideas worth spreading”, TED has created a program called TEDx as an outlet for local, self organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. I’m happy to announce that the next TEDx event will be held in Hong Kong on September 19th, 2009.

After six months of deliberation, my sister finally decided which “mui” ambigram tattoo design to go with. She gathered her courage and was officially inked by Joey Pang at the Tattoo Temple on July 28th, 2009.
This ad by BBDO Dusseldorf is a bit cheeky but you can’t deny it’s creativity. For their ad agency recruitment campaign, the minds at BBDO needed something raw and eye-catching yet simple enough to convey the “Join us” message all in one memorable symbol or catch-phrase.
Their final recruitment ad killed two birds with one stone by playing off the iconic Southern California “Blood” gang symbol. It also worked out nicely that the letters “b-b-d-o” were finger-friendly (I love my old ad agency, but try spelling TBWA with your fingers!) Hard to say if the general public will understand this hip-hop/gang reference, but a brilliant ad nonetheless.
“Pho” those of you who don’t know, pho (pronounced ‘fuh’) is a delicious traditional Vietnamese beef noodle soup. Everyone has their own reason for liking pho, but most pho-enthusiasts agree that the secret is in the broth. That’s why nothing beats a homemade bowl of pho.
Infographics and fairy tales aren’t a match made in heaven like peanut butter and jelly or designers and thick-black-rimmed glasses, but nevertheless if you like either of the aforementioned you’ll love this video. Feast your eyes on “Little Red Riding Hood” told through infographics!
My sister currently lives in the UK and has 2 tattoos - a rose on her right shoulder blade and a dove on her left wrist. Although these aren’t as generic as the ever-popular tribal band around the bicep, they are still simple template tattoos with no particular meaning.
So the last time my sister was in Hong Kong she asked me to come up with something more personal and unique. I have a thing for ambigrams , so a thought an ambigram of her childhood nickname “mui” would be perfect. See what I came up with after the jump!
