Jan Chipchase’s take on the 3 golden rules

I’ve been reading Jan Chipchase’s blog Future Perfect for quite some time now and recently came across a post very similar to one I wrote in May titled 3 golden rules for designers.

Same idea, slight variation on the details, but just as simple and eloquent. Check out Jan’s post - Good? Cheap? Fast? Pick Two

Designer fairy tales on steroids

Adrian Ma | Design, Illustration, Inspiration, Right Brain, Video | Friday, July 24th, 2009

Infographics and fairy tales aren’t a match made in heaven like peanut butter and jelly or designers and thick-black-rimmed glasses, but nevertheless if you like either of the aforementioned you’ll love this video. Feast your eyes on “Little Red Riding Hood” told through infographics!

“Mui” ambigram tattoo design

My sister currently lives in the UK and has 2 tattoos - a rose on her right shoulder blade and a dove on her left wrist. Although these aren’t as generic as the ever-popular tribal band around the bicep, they are still simple template tattoos with no particular meaning.

I stumbled onto Sorapot’s website recently and was instantly attracted to the unique design of their signature Sorapot Teapot. The object is so sexy and sleek but is it practical?

Mindful Marketing - Mos Def’s “The Ecstatic” Music Tee

Mos Def is a world-renowned MC, Hollywood actor, producer, and stand-up comedian just to name a few of his talents. Now he can add creative marketing guru to that list with the launch of his latest album, “The Ecstatic”.

He’ll be one of the first artists to fuse digital music with graphic design by releasing his album in a Music Tee format. “The Ecstatic” Music Tee features the cover art on the front of the t-shirt, tracklist on the back, and a unique download code printed on the hang tag.

A clever concept, indeed. Maybe funky t-shirt designs will be incentive enough to entice the public to purchase albums again.

Pablo Picasso uses darkness as a canvas

In 1949 while visiting Pablo Picasso in France, LIFE photographer Gjon Mili showed the art virtuoso pictures of ice skaters twirling in the dark with tiny lights attached to their skates.

Picasso was inspired and sought to replicate the effect with a small light source in a dark room. The results were some stunning photographs of the genius at work.
