Pop modernism - Chair by Timothy Schreiber

Adrian Ma | Design, Products, Right Brain | Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Gone are the traditional Freudian chairs of years past, a permanent fixture in almost every psychiatric office. Patients can now rejoice at the sight of the Morphogenesis Lounge Chair created by architect and designer Timothy Schreiber.

Before manufacturing began, Timothy used CAD software to visualize the product and analyzed every structural nuance to ensure the right balance between form and function. His self-proclaimed “pop modernism” style utilizes clean/simple lines and minimalistic designs resembling the ever-so-popular Apple aesthetic.

Thin is in - E-ink electronic scale

Adrian Ma | Design, Left Brain, Must-have, Products, Right Brain, Technology | Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

The craze hit the technology industry first with the birth of the Moto RAZR, Ipod Nano, and flat panel displays. The fashion industry followed suit with the emergence of skinny jeans and ties. So what’s next, you ask? Would you believe skinny scales!

Taiwan based Duck Image Studio has created a scale worthy enough to be supermodel sponsored. The paper-thin flexible scale combines a pressure sensing sheet that transmits data to an electronic paper display developed by E Ink.

Contemporary native art by Brian Jungen

Adrian Ma | Design | Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Brian Jungen is a Canadian born artist who is noted for his unique style of transforming common everyday objects into imaginative works of art. His pieces are heavily influenced by his Native heritage, evident in his sculpture of a massive whale skeleton made from plastic lawn chairs.

He is most famous for his Prototypes of New Understanding series where he disassembles Nike Air Jordan kicks and redesigns them into simulations of Northwest Coast Indian masks. Brand Jordan lovers will recognize the various editions in Brian’s work; I can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeve for the historic release of the Air Jordan 23 later this month.
